John Benjamin Hancock passed away peacefully on September 22, 2011. He was born October 22, 1947 in San Antonio, TX. John attended Stanford University and the University of Chicago Law School, and he was a captain in the U.S. Army. During his distinguished law career of more than 30 years he served on the legal staff of Bank of America, he was General Counsel for Citibank FSB California, 0f Counsel at Fenwick and West, Senior Vice President Enterprise Compliance for World Savings and Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Rabobank, N.A. John’s public service included terms on committees for the California Bar Association and the California Bankers Association. John is survived by those who loved him greatly: his husband, Mark Jacobs, his daughter, Kate Hancock, his son John B. Hancock VI, his sister Rebecca Welch and a multitude of friends. Those who wish may send contributions to Lambda Legal or the UC Regents, c/o the Dr. Joseph Tuscano Research Fund at the UC Davis Cancer Center.
