While growing up in NW Corvallis, we were neighbors with Ron and his sister Janice, who later became a nurse. I remember when Ron was in Junior High, fishing for crawdads on Dixon Creek. He was like a Tom Sawyer character. I was hanging out watching to see if he'd really catch any while listening to the local pop/rock music station on my transitor radio. Later on, after high school, Ron became what we might call today an eco-warrior. As I recall, he was protesting Wah Chang for dumping pollutants into the environment. I believe he got in trouble with the law over some of his protest actions. His mother and my mother were close friends, so often got together for koffee klatch conversation. His death was sudden and mysterious, ruled a suicide, but his mother always believed that it was foulplay.
