Harold F. Gillis-deceased

Harold F. Gillis

Harold F. Gillis, English/Journalism teacher 1965, and advisor to the school paper High-O-Scope(?), is living in Turlock, CA in the Covenant Village complex. We moved him down there, where my sister Cyndi lives, after mother died and his home in Bend was too much to keep. He has battled Parkinson's for fifteen years, but has remained valiant and active. He did a three generation backpack, wearing the pack, here in MT at age 85, a fitting way to give it up. He continued to make summer trips to MT to fish and get out with me until two years ago. Still mentally sharp, winning Scrabble games at the village, walking daily, he is approaching 93 like a champion! WWII veterans trip to D.C. a year ago thrilled him, as did a flight for veterans in a biplane Stearman this year. He volunteered hundreds of hours at a local grade school in Bend helping the kids with their reading, and continued doing similar volunteer work in Turlock until recently.
