Post High school I worked in the plywood mills a while and thought better of it. Took a wild stab at logging in Alaska and thought better of that too. If I had a better fitting pair of boots I might still be there. Made it back to the lower 48 and worked at counter sales and outside sales at an industrial bearing store. Re-met and fell in love with and married Leah Carr (lloyd's little sister) and while visiting the in-laws in Arizona in February decided there might be reason to give AZ a try.(they were barbecuing steaks on the patio in Feb!)
Sold the house packed the van and pregnant wife and made tracks for Arizona.
Son Ryan born shortly after, daughter Buffy two years later. Tried to get into construction (carpenters) but union said I was too old!!!
First job I did get lasted 15 years. Ended up as parts manager of heavy equipment distributer.
Had the world by the tail. Wife and kids I loved dearly, good job I enjoyed and was good at. Running and riding my bike to work each day. Leah and I got a bug to build an Earth Shelter Home and after lots of research, we bought a lot, dug a hole 13 feet below the sidewalk, and after 18 months of nights, weekends, holidays, and vacations, we had one.
We made it almost 20 years.
New wife now and things are looking up. Her and I have two kids each. My son Ryan is police officer , daughter went off to Air force to be a fire fighter. Each one has two kids now . One stepson is pilot for Southwest and step daughter is recently out of prison for selling 14 grams of meth to undercover officer. Bottom line our retirement plans changed some and now we are raising her three boys age 9,14,and 15.
Its been a heck of a ride but not all bad. Kids are a hoot and they deserve a chance.
