Alan Dale Sharpnack

Alan Sharpnack, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at the age of 79.

Alan was born and raised in Oregon by two loving Christian parents who instilled in him a deep faith in Jesus Christ and a lifelong commitment to serving others. He graduated from high school in 1965 and went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University. He later received a master's degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California.

Alan devoted his entire professional career to Unocal Oil Company, where he worked as a reservoir engineer. His work took him and his family to many places over the years, including California, Alaska, Wyoming, and Texas. After retirement, he and his wife spent time in Washington State before eventually settling in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Robin Sharpnack [Robin Oles CHS '66], his high school sweetheart whom he met at a Baptist Bible camp on the Oregon coast. Their marriage was a beautiful testimony of enduring love and faithfulness.

Alan is also survived by his children, Barry (Seung-Hee) Sharpnack, Matthew (Beverly) Sharpnack, and Anna (John) Pavey; his sisters, Donna and Elaine; twelve cherished grandchildren; and twelve treasured great-grandchildren.

Alan was known for his loving, generous, helpful, and kind spirit. He never complained when asked to hang another shelf, move furniture, or lend a helping hand. He had a passion for helping those in need and served in many capacities throughout his life, including mission work for Haiti, Meals on Wheels, and teaching at the Colorado Springs Rescue Mission. He also led a Bible study for friends in his home.

Alan was a devoted follower of Christ since he was 4 years old. He prayed continually for his family and faithfully taught them to love and follow Jesus. His quiet strength, steady faith, and servant's heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He loved golf from the time he was a boy and enjoyed many years on the course. His patience, determination and discipline brought him success at the sport. He accomplished something remarkable — in his lifetime, he got 3 holes-in-one. For him, golf was more than a game; it was a source of enjoyment, relaxation, and memories with friends and family.

In his later years, he treasured traveling with Robin to historical locations and sharing new experiences together. He also delighted in simple pleasures — playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, eating pulled pork sandwiches, and enjoying desserts, especially Robin's marionberry pies.

Alan's life was marked by faith, humility, generosity and love for his family. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and joyfully welcomed into the presence of his Savior.
